Joy Lynn Freeman has a unique gift to share that comes from her own experience – in miraculously growing out of her own inabilities.    Joy had wanted to sing her entire life but states she was not born with the natural ability to sing.  After many stints of traditional singing lessons that brought about little progress,  Joy’s internal guidance had her fall upon unique methods and approaches to singing where she successfully taught herself to sing – that is, the ability to remember melodies, sing harmonies, to have a good ear for pitch, and expand the range and quality of her voice.  To the point that she now performs her own songs and teaches others how to expand their vocal capacities as well.

She states “I feel like someone who couldn’t walk, who can now walk – it’s a miracle!” But the magic was more, as these methods did more than open her singing voice.  It unleashed her creativity overall.  She finished a book that had sat untouched for years, created an album of songs she wrote, (that others sing) and later created another CD of songs – on which she sang, plus lost her inhibitions to express herself more fully in public.

Singing from the heart is a natural part of most indigenous cultures and is seriously lacking in ours. These cultures understood the value of singing for joy, emotional balance, and community connection.   We have mistakenly come to believe that only the “talented few” have the right to sing. Joy offers many insights, tools and creative, fun ways of singing that have successfully transformed her from a “non singer” to a performing singer and opened her creativity on many levels.  She now performs her own songs when she lectures and on radio interviews.  Her unique process of voice opening has also led to her publishing a book and producing a CD.  Joy has a gift for creating an extremely safe and nurturing environment for people to step forward and express themselves.

In addition to expressing her creativity as a singer, dancer and drummer,  Joy has been a pioneer in the healing arts for over 30 years, as a physician, speaker-facilitator, expressive arts therapist and life transition coach. She has lectured and offered workshops and retreats nationwide and has been a frequent guest on radio shows. Joy is the author of the book Express Yourself: Discover Your Inner Truth, Creative Self and The Courage To Let It Out, CDs of songs she wrote Let It Shine and Soul Calling , and a series of five yoga videos. She was also the co-creator of Quantum Shift Retreats—transformational retreats incorporating expressive arts, therapeutic process, ritual & nature.
